BBQ Bacon Hawaiian Pizza

This is Hawaiian pizza on steroids. It is sweet (pineapple), salty (bacon), crunchy (pickles), savory (Canadian bacon), with just a touch of heat (sweet and spicy BBQ sauce)!!!

I first tried a pizza like this at a local pizzeria. They call theirs “The Abby” (assuming it is named after an employee there, also, clearly the greatest pizza developer of all time πŸ˜‰ ). They use pepperoni instead of Canadian bacon and do not include BBQ sauce. Definitely feel free to mix it up a bit when you make your own!

Here is what you need

To create your own little piece of heaven you will need the following ingredients:

1 package pizza dough
Flour, as needed
2 T olive oil
Garlic Powder, Oregano, Parsley, to taste
1 can pizza sauce
1 – 1.5 cups shredded Mozzarella cheese
1/2 – 1 cup shredded Colby Jack cheese
1/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
4 strips thick cut bacon
1 package Canadian bacon
1/3 cup pineapple chunks (canned is fine)
1/3 cup baby dill pickles, sliced
2 – 3 T sweet and spicy BBQ sauce

Making the Crust

I take the easy way out and use packaged pizza dough that you just add hot water to. You could also you a pre-made or refrigerated crust. I decided to make a thin crust pizza but this would be equally (if not more) delicious with a thicker crust.

Make the crust according to the packages directions. Let sit for 5 – 10 minutes.

Prep your toppings

While the crust sits, prep your toppings. Cook the bacon — I cooked mine in the microwave for simplicity. A good rule of thumb is 1 minute per strip of bacon, plus 1 minute. I cooked 4 strips for 5 minutes in the microwave. If you do cook it in the microwave make sure to put a paper towel on your plate before the bacon and also on top of the bacon to catch any grease and prevent any splatters.Β

I always use baby dill pickles and chop them myself because I like how crunchy they are but you could also use pickle slices.

I used canned pineapple – again, to make things easier. Make sure to drain the can to get any excess liquid of the fruit. You could also use crushed pineapples if you prefer.

Set toppings aside for now.

Assemble the pizza

Generously sprinkle flour onto your pizza pan to make spreading the dough easier. Once the dough is evenly spread, lightly brush olive oil around the edges of the crust. This will help it get a nice golden brown color.

Next, sprinkle the garlic powder, oregano, and parsley around the edge of the crust (on top of the olive oil) to your liking. Then, spread the pizza sauce all over the crust.

Toppings

Next, pile on your toppings!

The first rule of cheese is to never, ever skimp on it! Add as much cheese as you like, making sure to completely cover the sauce. I used shredded Mozzarella, shredded Colby Jack, and shredded Parmesan.

Once you have enough cheese on your pizza add the Canadian bacon, pickles, pineapple, and bacon.

OMG yum, my mouth is watering.

Bake

Bake the pizza at 425 for 15-17 minutes or until crust is golden brown and cheese is melted.

One the pizza is fully cooked, drizzle a healthy amount of sweet and spicy BBQ sauce onto the top. Let the pizza cool on the pan for 3 – 4 minutes before slicing.
